A youth softball game comprised of those ages 8 to 13 from participating churches was held before the championship game.
St. Thomas’ emerged as the winner, and the championship trophy was presented to Coach Stephen Weatherholt and his team of Episcopalians.
A picnic supper followed for all in attendance.
League organizers Doug and Linda Bolton said they were pleased with how the first season went and will hold a wrapup meeting Monday at 7:45 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish Hall, East High Street.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend, give feedback and help plan for next year.
Breakfast in the park
The James W. Bowers Masonic Lodge of Hancock invites the community to a hot, cooked breakfast at Widmeyer Park on Saturday. Serving hours are 7 to 10 a.m., with all proceeds benefiting the Masons’ outreach to the local community.
Church festival set for Saturday
Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church will host its annual church festival Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Homemade food on the menu includes country ham sandwiches, steamers and chili dogs, soups, ice cream and pies.
Games, including a dunk tank, will be offered for children and adults.
The Guilford Station Bluegrass Gospel Band will provide music.
From Hancock, take Md. 144 5 1/2 miles west. Turn south (left) on Western Pike and follow the signs 1 1/2 miles to Mount Olivet.
Torn to perform
Don’t forget that the popular local band Torn will perform at Hancock American Legion on Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The dance will benefit the Interfaith Service Coalition. Tickets cost $5 per person. For tickets, call the ISC at 301-678-6605.
Preschool has openings for students
Good Shepherd Pre-School, a mission of Hancock United Methodist Church, is enrolling students for the new school year.
A Maryland State Department of Education approved curriculum is followed, and the school boasts teachers who hold MSDE credentials.
Students ages 2 to 5 are welcome to enroll in the preschool, and other students may enroll for before- and after-school care.
Meals and snacks are included, and the school is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania vouchers are accepted.
