Girl Scout Troop 40051 collects cards for troops

Sharpsburg Girl Scout Troop 40051 participated in the South Washington County Military Support Group Holiday Card Campaign for the Troops and collected more than 100 cards and items.

The girls were generous with their gifts of Halloween candy.

The troop collected from day-care groups, Sunday school groups and families. The collection box was delivered Nov. 16 to Lynn Jones for delivery to the troops.

Keedysville approves curbside recycling   

At the Nov. 7 meeting, the Mayor and Council of Keedysville approved curbside recycling for the town.

The program will begin in late January 2012. The town will switch from trash pickup on Monday and Thursday, to trash pickup on Monday and recycling pickup on Thursday at no change in cost to the town.

Yard waste pickup will continue each Tuesday.

Breakfast with Santa  

Potomac Valley Fire Co. will hold Breakfast with Santa Saturday from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The menu includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, coffee, milk and juice.

Tickets cost $5 for adults. Those 12 and younger eat free. Santa will visit from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Spaghetti dinner to benefit local family  

Sharpsburg Little League will hold a spaghetti dinner Sunday, Dec. 11, at Pleasant Valley Fire Hall in Dargan with doors opening at 3 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit a local family who lost their father in a motorcycle accident last summer, leaving behind four children.

Tickets cost $8 for those ages 9 and older. Those 8 and younger pay by donation.  

The menu includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti, salad, roll and drinks. A bake sale table will be available.
