I would like to wish Catharine Stockslager a very happy 100th birthday on Sept.11. She is an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and is enjoying watching her O’s have a winning season. Hope you have a wonderful day, Catharine.
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church to hold program
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Avenue, welcomes the Rev. Dr. Michael Barry on Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon as he presents the program “Release! The Healing Power of Forgiveness.” Barry is the director of pastoral care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia.
You might think about forgiveness as primarily an ethical or spiritual exercise — and, to be sure, forgiveness does have both moral and religious implications. But the truth is forgiveness can also have a powerful, positive impact on your physical health. When someone is diagnosed with cancer or another life-threatening illness, do you know what to do or say?
Please mark your calendars for this event. To RSVP, contact Pat Kelley at 301-733-7550 or Julie Fiery at 301-791-3644 or Julie@DouglasFiery.com (Please put Re: Release in the subject line). This event is free and open to the public. For more information on “Release! The Healing Power of Forgiveness!,” visit the website www.releasenow.org.
Lions are accepting phone card donations
The West Hagerstown Lions Club will be collecting donations to purchase international phone cards for military service members overseas. To donate a card or money toward a card, please contact Phyllis Bradley at 301-797-4499.
Christmas cards also will be collected. Write a personal message and sign the card, but don’t put it in the envelope or apply stamps. The cards will be included in boxes packed by the Southern Washington County Military Support Group, based in Keedysville. Last year, the group sent 584 boxes to 98 military units in five countries. The club will collect the international phone cards and greeting cards until the end of September.
The club will be taking orders for ham sandwiches until Sept. 14. Prices are $2 for baked ham and $2.50 for country ham.
The club will hold its family picnic at Funkstown Park Sept. 17.
