The students were nominated for exemplifying all of the Character Counts! pillars. Sharpsburg Principal Kathy Kelsey, and school counselor Jackie Kinzer and the parents of the students attended the luncheon where the students received certificates and gift cards.
Steak feed planned
The District 12 Ruritan Club, at the corner of Breathedsville and Manor Church roads in Fairplay, will hold a steak feed Saturday, June 11, beginning at 5 p.m. Only advanced tickets will be sold. The $15 per person meal will consist of New York strip steak, baked beans, salad, roll, dessert and drinks. Tip jars will be available.

Gray to speak at library
Local author and historian Warren Gray will present his research on John Wilkes Booth from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Sharpsburg Public Library.

Salem to hold yard sale
Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 17626 Bakersville Road, will hold a yard and bake sale Saturday at the church, beginning at 8 a.m. A doughnut and coffee breakfast and a country ham potpie with cole slaw lunch will be served. Country ham sandwiches, hot dogs and steamers will be available. The proceeds will benefit the restoration of the old stone church building.

Garden tour to be held
The Rural Heritage Museum will hold the second annual Washington County Garden Tour Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets cost $10 per person and will be available the day of the tour at any participating garden. Parking is available onsite. Participants may begin at any of the six featured gardens and visit all six in any order throughout the day.

Pressure canning workshop
The Washington County Agriculture Marketing Department and the University of Maryland Extension Office will present a "Grow it, Eat it, Preserve It" workshop Thursday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center's multipurpose building.
This pressure canning, low acid foods session will discuss what foods are considered low acid, how pressure canning works and the types of pressure canners and how to process foods using a pressure canner. Bring your pressure canner dial gauge and it will be tested for accuracy. The workshop costs $35 per person.

BHS Class to hold reunion meeting
