According to the latest U.S. Census data recorded in 2002, the state of Virginia had the ninth-largest minority-owned business population. Of all minority-owned businesses statewide, more than 40,000 were black-owned and accounted for roughly $3.7 billion in sales and receipts. The findings in 2002 represented an increase of approximately $300 million in revenue and more than 7,000 black-owned businesses--a growth that the Virginia Commission on Minority Business Enterprise only expects to continue.
The Daily Press has consulted a number of sources, including the business directories of MyBlack Business Directory, Black Pages, USA, and the Greater Hampton Roads Black Chamber of Commerce to compile a list of black-owned businesses in the Hampton Roads area. This directory is only a sampling and in no way accounts for all black-owned businesses in the area. If you have a business to add to this list, please send an e-mail with the business name, phone number, address and Web site to Summer Gladden. Businesses are listed in alphabetical order.
