  1. Will Republicans let Obama have his scandal?

Republicans in Congress are so hungry for scalps, they just can't leave well enough alone. The scandal engulfing the Internal Revenue Service is a story that's playing to their benefit. On Monday, after having the weekend to think about it, Sen. Marco...

  3. Goldberg: Benghazi's smoking guns

President Obama was asked about the metastasizing Benghazi scandal in a joint news conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday. Referring to the Americans who died in Benghazi, the president said, "We dishonor them when we turn things like this into a political circus." He added that "the whole issue of talking points, throughout this process, frankly, has been a sideshow.… There's no there there."

  5. Benghazi redacted

    WASHINGTON -- Mistakes were made.
WASHINGTON -- Mistakes were made. This, we are supposed to accept, is the conclusion to be drawn about the terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya, despite congressional testimony Wednesday suggesting that significant efforts were made to camouflage...

  7. McManus: The second-term scandal plague

What is it about presidents' second terms that makes them seem so scandal-ridden? Simple: The iron law of longevity. All governments make mistakes, and all governments try to hide those mistakes. But the longer an administration is in office, the more errors it makes, and the harder they are to conceal.

  9. How Obama can rescue his candidacy

Here's the White House view of the current trilogy of so-called scandals: Republicans are trying to destroy President Barack Obama's second term by magnifying bureaucratic miscues and distorting policy realities. This isn't without some merit.

  11. The cover-up unravels

    Paul Greenberg
Now we know. Or at least we know more than we did about what happened at Benghazi, and, even more telling, what happened afterward. And there's doubtless more to come. With each congressional hearing, with each appearance by another whistleblower, the...

  15. Benghazi hearing give GOP another chance to target Hillary

    Jules Witcover
WASHINGTON -- If former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hoped she could segue quietly into private life as she pondered a presidential bid in 2016, that fantasy has been abruptly harpooned in the resurrection of the political squabble over the...

  17. That's the Middle East -- and the West, too

    Paul Greenberg
The bloody war-by-proxy continues in Syria. It pits the embattled, increasingly desperate but still determined and far from defeated dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad against a disorganized amalgam of rebels, aka the Free Syrian Army. Each has its own array...

  19. Benghazi, IRS: Son of Watergate?

    Cal Thomas
In his defense of President Obama, Press Secretary Jay Carney is beginning to sound a lot like Ronald Zeigler, Richard Nixon's spokesman. Carney only has to use the word "inoperative," as Ziegler did when incriminating evidence surfaced that proved his...

  21. Bad faith and Benghazi

    Jonah Goldberg
"Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night and decided they'd go kill some Americans? What difference -- at this point, what difference does it make?" That was how then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton famously...

  23. Redacted truth, subjunctive outrage

WASHINGTON — Note to GOP re Benghazi: Stop calling it Watergate, Iran-Contra, bigger than both, etc. First, it might well be, but we don't know. History will judge. Second, overhyping will only diminish the importance of the scandal if it doesn't meet presidency-breaking standards. Third, focusing on the political effects simply plays into the hands of Democrats desperately claiming that this is nothing but partisan politics.
