CALEXICO - The Calexico Relay For Life's main fundraising event begins Saturday morning and will continue for 24 straight hours into Sunday morning this weekend.
The opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Calexico High School football field. Those diagnosed with cancer, in remission, or who just want to support those affected by cancer are invited to attend.
Hundreds of candlelit luminaria will light up the relay track as a moment of silence is observed at 9 p.m. Saturday night.
More than 30 teams have signed up to participate.
"It's important for people to come out because everyone needs to know the services the American Cancer Society provides. It's all free," Bernal said. "There's a lot of people who don't know about all the serivces."
