SALTON CITY --- A 63-year-old Salton City man suffered major head injuries late Thursday afternoon when he skidded his mid-size sedan across a driveway before rolling over when the vehicle struck a berm, the California Highway Patrol reported Friday.

Kenneth A. Andrews was flown out to Desert Regional Medical Center following the crash that was reported at 4:55 p.m. on North Marina Drive, east of Nueco Avenue, said Highway Patrol Officer Jose Serrano.

Andrews was heading west in a 2010 Dodge Avenger on North Marina Drive at an unknown rate of speed when he veered off the right shoulder, Serrano said. Andrews jerked the steering wheel sharply to the left which caused his vehicle to skid sideways until it came across the driveway of a home and into an empty dirt lot, Serrano said.

The sedan struck a dirt berm and rolled over, leaving Andrews with major head trauma that required a flight out to the Palm Desert hospital, Serrano said.
