A fatal hit and run car accident leaves Houston police on the lookout...and a university in mourning.

Late Tuesday night cops responded to a suspicious Buick parked in third ward.

When police asked the two men inside the car to get out, the passenger came out but the driver sped off.

While searching for the missing Buick cops came across a car accident at Dowling and Cleburne.

According to HPD the missing Buick ran a red light and slammed into another car killing the backseat passenger 27-year-old Texas Southern University law student Catherine Haley Shaw.

The school held a small vigil in her memory Wednesday.

Two other people in the car were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be ok.

The passenger of the getaway car was detained but not charged.
