Of all the cars on all the streets in all the neighborhoods in Houston, some guy had to pick the one with a couple of undercover cops on surveillance.
That’s what appears to be what happened in the 2000 block of Dewalt.
Houston police say two undercover drug cops were sitting in an unmarked car when a man came up and yelled at them and started keying the car with a sharp object.
'Both officers were yelling that they’re the police, to hold off that they’re the police,' said Joe Cannon, HPD spokesperson. 'And the suspect ignored those statements and continued to stab the officer. And that`s when both of them discharged their weapons.'
Kevin Bernard Hunter, 51, died at the scene. Police say they found a box cutter on his body.
His sister, Kathalynn Cole, says she and her mother own the property where the cops parked, and that her brother may have been trying to see who they were.
'There was a car parked in the yard, he walked over to see who was in the car, he couldn’t see through the window so he started beating on the car telling them to get out of the yard, they were on his property. And that’s when they raised the windows down. Now that’s all I know as far as that goes. And that he started stabbing one of the officers and the other officer shot him.'
The injured officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest for treatment and was released.
Only three people know for sure what went down, and one of them won’t be talking.
