LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles County Coroner has completed the autopsy on the engineer at the controls of the Metrolink train that crashed in Chatsworth September 12 killing 25 people.
The report states that 46-year-old Robert M. Sanchez was not under the influence of drugs or medications.
Sanchez had a history of diabetes, but that did not appear to be a factor in the crash. He could have suffered from an irregular heartbeat.
Sanchez has been the focus of investigators trying to understand why he failed to stop the train at a red signal shortly before it rammed head-on onto a freight train.
Sanchez sent dozens of text messages the day of the collision, including one just seconds before the collision.
Federal investigators are still working to determine the cause of the train disaster. Their investigation is not expected to be completed for months.
