Talk Show Host Steve Wilkos is at the L.A. County Fair to kick off this year's USA Cares event. Back in 2007, the Steve Wilkos Show teamed up with USA Cares to help provide financial support for military families. Wilkos is a former marine and Chicago police officer. He is the national spokesperson for the organization and travels the country for the group. USA Cares is providing post 9/11 military families with financial and advocacy support . Assistance is provided to all branches of the service. Since 2003, USA Cares has responded to 30-thousand request for assistance with more than 8-million dollars in direct grant support.
This Saturday, September 10th, the L.A. County Fair will kick off A Weekend For Heroes. During this weekend, active and retired military, reserve police officers and paramedics, along with one guest can attend the Fair for $1 each
this admission will be donated to USA Cares/
The Fair will also offer a special $2 admission to all guests on Saturday and Sunday for the first hour 10am to 11am--proceeds for that will go to the Red Cross.
On Sunday, September 11th, there a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run, starting at 8:50am. Before the race, a moment of silence will be observed in remembrance of the first plane that hit the World Trade Center.
