HONOLULU (KTLA) -- A Camp Pendleton-trained Marine has died after falling from his 17th story hotel room in Honolulu.
Luke Monahan, 19, was celebrating Memorial Day with several Marines at the Ilima Hotel near Waikiki Beach.
Monahan, a Palos Verdes native, fell from his room on the 17th floor and hit an air conditioning unit around 8 a.m. Saturday.
He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Monahan trained at Camp Pendleton before being assigned to a base in Hawaii in January.
Police said Monahan and his friends were seen at a local club the night before he died.
The cause of his death is currently under investigation, but Monahan's parents told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser they don't believe alcohol was a factor.
"I said, Luke, remember you're only 19. Don't drink," Eileen Monahan told her son the night before he died. "He said, 'I'm OK. I won't drink.'"
