MONROVIA -- Trader Joe's is recalling select lot codes of 7.4-ounce boxes of a certain type of granola bar because of possible salmonella contamination.
The Monrovia-based chain is warning customers that boxes of "Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Chewy Coated Granola Bars" with use by dates of 16JUL10H2 and 17JUL10HI may be affected.
In the written statement the company says "As a precaution all of the product has been removed from sale and has been destroyed. To date, we have received no reports of illness related to these Chocolate Chip Chewy Coated Granola Bars."
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
The recalled bars were manufactured by Bloomfield Bakery, a subsidiary of Ralcorp Holdings Inc.
