BIG SPRINGS, Neb. -- A truck driver has been charged with abducting an 8-year-old California girl from a travel center in western Nebraska.
The State Patrol says 45-year-old William J. Buckner, of Clifton Springs, N.Y., was booked into the Garden County jail Thursday on charges of kidnapping, sexual assault and transporting a minor across state lines.
Authorities say the child's family was at the Bosselman Travel Center at the Big Springs Interstate 80 interchange on Thursday.
Witnesses reported seeing a man place the girl in the semitrailer, then drive away.
The State Patrol says he was taken into custody after returning to the center with the girl.
It was not clear if Buckner had an attorney. A spokeswoman for the patrol did not return a call Thursday night.
