The AT&T and Verizon iPhones are believed to have the same functions, but according to ZD NET’s "educated guess" Verizon could have it available in white.
The biggest news that the Wall Street Journal has confirmed through a "person familiar with the matter" that Verizon will be offering an unlimited data plan for the iPhone. If this proves to be true, it will give Verizon an edge over AT&T due to AT&T ending its unlimited iPhone data plans last year. This plan could be a problem for Verizon because iPhones are known for being a data glutton. According to PCWorld in 2009, AT&T said that 3 percent of its user base, largely iPhone users, was responsible for 40 percent of AT&T's network data usage."
In a recent statement by AT&T's Larry Solomon, he countered the excitement of Verizon’s release by stating, "The iPhone is built for speed, but that's not what you get with a CDMA phone. I'm not sure iPhone users are ready for life in the slow lane." Solomon states the GSM technology that AT&T runs off of is faster than the CDMA network that Verizon has.
Verizon is scheduled to have the presentation tomorrow at the Lincoln Center in New York at 11 a.m. eastern and the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Steve Jobs may to be present for the event. Rumors seem to agree that Verizon plans on releasing their iPhone around February 3rd.
