The pilot of a helicopter that collided with an airplane over Antioch Sunday evening said she was clipped from behind by the pilot of the plane.
The 29-year-old pilot was an experienced commercial pilot according to Vertical CFI Flight School owner Wayne Prodger. The as yet unidentified pilot was accumulating the five night time solo hours needed for her helicopter rating.
He told the Associated Press that the helicopter pilot saw the Beechcraft Bonanza coming up behind her and all of a sudden her skids were clipped and she began falling to the ground. She received minor injuries to her hands but walked away from the crash.
The airplane was registered to 49-year-old Ronald Gawer of Brentwood and he was believed to be piloting the airplane. He crash landed at nearby Byron Airport, where his plane is hangered. The airport was closed while salvage crews towed it from just short of the runway where it crashed landed. Gawer also received minor injuries. He did not return calls made by FOX40.
