A man is sitting in Sacramento County Jail after allegedly throwing gasoline on deputies attempting to serve him with an eviction notice.

Officers responded to the 4400 block of Old Dairy Drive last Wednesday to service 54-year-old John Powell with an eviction notice. When officers arrived, the suspected barricaded himself in a bedroom with a container of gasoline and a cigarette lighter.

When officers gained entry into the bedroom, Powell allegedly threw gasoline on the deputies and threatened to set the building on fire. One deputy was treated at an area hospital for temporary blindness due to the gasoline.

A report on the Sacramento Bee's website says Powell is being held on $230,000 bail and has been charged with assauting a peace officer, resisting arrest and attempted arson.
