‘Dexter’ stars Michael C. Hall and wife Jennifer Carpenter look to make a killing
Actress Jennifer Carpenter,who stars on Showtime’s murder-centric “Dexter” with her husband, Michael C. Hall, has listed her Hollywood Hills bachelorette pad for $695,000.
The 1937 California bungalow, with two bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms, was built as a hunting lodge. Surrounded by mature trees and landscaping, the cottage has vaulted ceilings, skylights and decks off the dining room and master bedroom. There is a flat lawn and canyon views.
Carpenter, 29, has played Dexter Morgan’s sister, Debra, since 2006. The Emmy-nominated show, in its fourth season, centers on a forensics expert and serial killer played by Hall, 38. He also was one of the central characters in the ensemble drama “Six Feet Under” (2001-05).
She starred in the horror films “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” (2005) and “Quarantine” (2008) and will appear with John Cusack in the psychological thriller “The Factory” (2011).
Carpenter and Hall were married in December.

Now he’ll tee off somewhere else
Golf champ Fred Couples has sold his house in the Santa Barbara-area community of Montecito for $9.56 million.
The 11,000-square-foot, two-story Monterey colonial had been listed last year at $12.5 million. The main house, built in 1939, has nine bedrooms and 7 1/2 bathrooms. The 2,300-square-foot guesthouse has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen.
The 5-acre, ocean-view property includes a putting green, a tennis court, rose gardens and a swimming pool.
Couples, 50, purchased the home in 1999 for $4 million. The 15-time PGA Tour winner has relocated to La Quinta, Calif.
Sharon R. Fisher and Vickie G. Craig of Village Properties, Montecito, shared the listing with Dan Encell of Prudential California Realty, Montecito. Colleen Beall, also of Village Properties, represented the buyer.
It’s something of a celeb magnet
A 1929 Los Feliz home once owned actor Cary Grant and, later, drummer Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers has come on the market at $3,495,000.
The Spanish Colonial Revival-style villa has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a media room in 6,727 square feet. Details include original stained glass and period tile.
There are gardens, a swimming pool and an attached one-bedroom guest apartment.
Grant carried bride Virginia Cherrill, his first wife, over the threshold of this house, according to “Dream Palaces of Hollywood’s Golden Age” by David Wallace.
The walled property last sold in 2006 for $3.2 million, public records show.

Film producer greenlights deal
Phoenix Pictures Chairman and co-founder Mike Medavoy and his wife, Irena,have purchased a Beverly Hills home for $5.85 million, the Multiple Listing Service shows.
The contemporary Mediterranean, built in 1965, has four bedrooms and seven bathrooms in about 6,200 square feet.
The one-story house has views of the city beyond the grassy backyard, which has a swimming pool and spa. There is a gated motor court and a four-car garage.
The property sold for $5.6 million in 2008 and had come on the market in February at $7.99 million.
The film producer had listed his custom-built Beverly Park mansion in March but withdrew it after a month and a half.
“We can’t find anything we like out there more than where we are now,” Medavoy said at the time. The six-bedroom, 10-bathroom East Coast traditional on 2 acres had been priced at $19,995,000.
The Medavoys have transferred the deed on that house, but details of the transaction were not available.
Medavoy, 68, has been at work on the movies “Shutter Island,” directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and “Black Swan,” directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman. Both are due out next year.
The Medavoys were represented by Joyce Rey and Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker, Beverly Hills, on their recent purchase, according to the MLS, and the listing agents were Lou Melazzo and Stephen Resnick of Westside Estate Agency, Beverly Hills.
He has designs on a new project
Retired fashion designer Geary Roark has listed his Studio City home at $1,099,000.
The Robert Byrd-designed storybook ranch, built in 1953, has hand-hewn beam ceilings, built-in cabinets and a two-sided brick wall with a fireplace in the living room and a built-in barbecue with a rotisserie in the dining room.
There are three bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms in 1,894 square feet.
Roark grew up in Tennessee, and his father was a building contractor.
“I was really attracted to the craftsmanship in the house,” he said, describing it as having “lots of wood and lots of character.”
During his 27 years in the home, he has left his mark. “When I redid this house, step by step, I tried to think of the integrity of the house,” said Roark, who used the home to entertain clients and major buyers. “The first thing I did was replace the carpet with flagstone.”
Byrd is known for creating homes that make the most of their natural surroundings. “It’s built on a hill, and designed for the lot, so when you come up the driveway, there are a series of steps, and on the second level you see the openness of the house,” Roark said. “The inside and outside are all sort of one.”
To continue the flow visually, Roark used broken concrete on the back patio and added retaining walls of stone from the site.
Now that he is no longer designing dresses, Roark, 61, plans to move to Palm Springs, where his daughter lives.
“I just want a new project -- something creative to do,” he said.
Roark is looking for a home built between the late ‘40s and the mid-’60s. “There are some wonderful architectural homes there that, fortunately, have not been touched.”
His dresses and suits have been worn on such TV shows as “Dallas” and “Hollywood Insider,” at red-carpet events and by luminaries including Hillary Rodham Clinton and Oprah Winfrey. In his heyday, he had his own departments in such stores as Bullocks Wilshire and Neiman Marcus.
