Freshman Bryce Ortega went four for five with three RBIs, including the game-winner to drive a runner from second base, to lead host Palos Verdes (3-4). Freshman left-hander Matt Grace pitched the final 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for Palos Verdes. Nathan Peranelli went two for four with a three-run double for Bishop Montgomery (5-3).
San Bernardino 4-8, Coachella Valley 3-6
Freshman pitcher Marcos Rivera got his first high school win, giving up four hits and striking out six for San Bernardino (6-5) in the first game. Teammate and cousin Greg Torres went three for four and had a game-winning bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the seventh in the same game. Senior Mario Rivera pitched four innings of relief with seven strikeouts and earned the win with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth in the second game. David Saucedo went three for four with two runs and two RBIs and Jeff Bowden went two for three with a double and two runs for San Bernardino in the second game. Coachella Valley is 1-3.
St. Francis 3-7, Oak Park 2-3
In the first game, senior Alex Gonzalez pinched hit a two-out home run in the seventh inning and junior Andy Marquardt (2-0) threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts for visiting St. Francis. In the second game, freshman Andrew Sember pitched three innings of scoreless relief to grab his first varsity win and Andy Marquardt went three for four with two RBIs to lead St. Francis (6-1). Oak Park is 2-4-1.
Vasquez 5, Rosamond 2
China McCarney (4-0) allowed no earned runs and three hits with eight strikeouts in six innings and Jeremy Scarbury had a run-scoring double for Vasquez (6-2) at JetHawks Stadium in Lancaster. Rosamond is 2-3.
Victor Valley 5-7, Serrano 4-11
In the second game, Eric Schaefer went two for three with three RBIs and scored one run to lead visiting Serrano (5-3).
Clovis 5-0, Agoura 4-5
Jamie Cipriano threw a two-hitter in the nightcap as the Chargers (6-3) earned a split with Clovis (9-2), the top-ranked team in the CIF Central Section.
Lompoc Cabrillo 31-16, San Luis Obispo Mission Prep 0-0
Senior shortstop Isaac Simmons went four for six with two home runs, two doubles, seven RBIs and seven runs scored for Cabrillo (4-4). Simmons also drew four walks. Mission Prep is 0-4.
Westminster La Quinta 15-13, Portland (Ore.) Wilson 6-3
Brandon Laird hit two home runs, including a three-run homer in the first game, and went seven for eight with six runs scored and seven RBIs on the day for No. 13 La Quinta (8-0-1).
