Junior running back Daniel Jenkins rushed for 83 yards in eight carries and four other players scored as the Braves upset previously unbeaten Santa Margarita at St. John Bosco.

Santa Margarita (6-1, 1-1), ranked No. 14 in the Southland by The Times, played without versatile senior quarterback Michael Angelo, who was benched for disciplinary reasons after arriving late for a mandatory game-day church service at Santa Margarita. Angelo had rushed for 464 yards and six touchdowns and passed for another six touchdowns entering the game.

Senior Ryan Neinhuis replaced Angelo but was ineffective passing. Neinhuis completed two of eight passes for 11 yards with one interception, although he was the team's second leading rusher with 37 yards in 10 carries. Chris Ramsey had 43 yards in 11 carries to lead the Eagles, who finished with just 125 total yards.

St. John Bosco (6-1, 1-1), ranked No. 19 by The Times, scored in each quarter. Louis Spindola kicked a 37-yard field goal in the first, Greg Chavez had a six-yard touchdown run in the second, Michael Acosta returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown in the third and Anthony Rodriguez caught a six-yard scoring pass from Patrick Cowan in the fourth.

Terrence King, who had rushed for 628 yards and 12 touchdowns as a backup, finished with 60 yards in 15 carries for the Braves. The defending league-champion Braves beat Santa Margarita for the second consecutive season after losing the first five games between the teams.
