  1. At Nobu Hotel, serenity amid the chaos of Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Hotels open restaurants all the time. But a restaurant opening a hotel? That happens less often.
LAS VEGAS — Hotels open restaurants all the time. But a restaurant opening a hotel? That happens less often. But stuff happens in Las Vegas. The newest Nobu here is, indeed, a hotel. Not only that, but it's also a hotel within a hotel. And it'...

  3. Nobu

    <span>After months (nay, years) of hype, star chef Nobu Matsuhisa&rsquo;s first-ever Nobu Hotel has </span><span>finally opened, and at its heart is an all-new Nobu Restaurant &amp; Lounge &mdash; the world&rsquo;s largest, clocking in at 12,775-square-feet. The bowed columns of bamboo, colorful private dining pods and oversized light fixtures create a impeccably serene vibe. Dine at one of several teppanyaki </span><span>tables or the sushi bar, and sample Nobu&rsquo;s famous Asian-fusion fare such as black cod with </span>miso. Book a room in the hotel and experience Nobu&rsquo;s first-ever room-service menu.&nbsp;

  5. Critic's Choice: Cool, creative ceviche

Is ceviche poised to become as popular as sushi or sashimi in L.A.? It could happen. I'm thinking Ricardo Zarate is onto something as the Peruvian chef (Mo-Chica, Picca) gets ready to open a ceviche concept called Paiche. Raw seafood marinated in lime juice with chiles and cilantro and other elements suits a Southern California palate. It's cool and refreshing, packs in vibrant flavors and is light on the calories.

  7. Vegas Uncork'd: Don't forget your bikini

It&rsquo;s just the season, I guess, but wine events keep coming fast and furious. Tickets are on sale for a biggie in Vegas. That would be the 7th annual <a href="http://www.vegasuncorked.com/">Vegas Uncork&rsquo;d</a> sponsored by the magazine <a href="http://www.bonappetit.com/">Bon App&eacute;tit</a>.

  9. Las Vegas: Nobu Hotel opens in Caesars

After three years of planning, <a href="http://www.nobucaesarspalace.com" target="_blank">Nobu</a>, <a href="http://www.latimes.com/travel/destinations/lasvegas">Las Vegas</a>' newest hotel, is welcoming its first guests. The "hotel within a hotel" at <a href="http://www.caesarspalace.com" target="_self">Caesars Palace</a> opened Monday after a weekend of celebrations in which Robert De Niro, a partner in the project, was the star, if somewhat reticent, attraction.

  11. Nobu for high rollers: 24-hour sushi service hits Vegas

Has it come to this? Nobu Matsuhisa has a new hotel with 24-hour sushi service. Sushi fanciers can hole up in Vegas at the new <a href="http://www.NobuCaesarsPalace.com">Nobu Hotel Caesars Palace</a> and &ldquo;get into bed with Nobu for breakfast, lunch and dinner&rdquo; per the breathless prose of a news release.

  13. Counter Intelligence: Spago makeover smooths aging star's wrinkles

The first responsibility of any great restaurant is to keep you in the bubble, the soft-serve cocoon of illusion where you forget the world exists for anything but your pleasure. And the newly redesigned Spago, from the moment you toss your keys to the valet to the moment you stagger back out again, gives good bubble.

  15. Sun

Forget the always-75-and-sunny stereotype; it can get downright chilly in L.A. during the winter. And as temperatures in Southern California dip, Angelenos to head east to spend the cooler months basking under the desert sun. Here we round up some of the hottest inland attractions, perfect for a winter retreat from the West Coast.

Come fall, the world&rsquo;s first Nobu-branded boutique hotel will open inside Caesars Palace. The 180-room Nobu Hotel will reflect Nobu Matsuhisa&rsquo;s signature Japanese aesthetic and feature the acclaimed sushi-fusion chef&rsquo;s first in-room dining menu. An 11,200-square-foot Nobu Restaurant and Lounge will feature teppanyaki tables, a sushi bar and private dining area. High-profile backers include Matsuhisa&rsquo;s business partner and friend Robert De Niro, who financed Matsuhisa&rsquo;s New York restaurant.

  19. Counter Intelligence: An E-ticket meal at n/naka

The first time you come to n/naka, a <em>kaiseki</em> restaurant a bit north of Sony studios in the Palms area of Los Angeles, you will inevitably soar right by the place, a low, featureless building in a strip of dry cleaners and tarot-card readers surrounded by a raked zen garden in 50 shades of gray. There is no sign, no valet parking, no hint that you are entering a restaurant instead of a high-toned back office.

  21. Counter Intelligence: Shunji is no ordinary sushi bar

We all think we know what to expect from a great sushi meal in Los Angeles, a progression of fish and rice that runs from the vinegared dish at the beginning to the warm crab hand roll at the end. If we are in a restaurant influenced by Nobu Matsuhisa, there may be some ceviche or spicy tuna along the way; if we are at a modern sushi bar, there may be cooked oysters or a salad.

  23. Counter Intelligence: At modern Mo-Chica, the alpaca question

Have you been to the new Mo-Chica? Ricardo Zarate's Peruvian restaurant seems to define the downtown thing at the moment: It's a high-style warren on 7th Street, down the block from Bottega Louie, where the scene is as important as the drinks, and the drinks are as vital as the food.
