5. 5 Questions for Whitney Flood

Whitney Flood is chef and proprietor of new Culver City restaurant Muddy Leek. After working in restaurants in New York and Big Sur, he and his wife, Julie Retzlaff, started Bon Mélange Catering in Los Angeles -- known for its farm-to-table focus and Flood's affinity for unusual pairings and game meats -- for events including weddings and underground pop-up dinners. Now the two together run Muddy Leek, the name an ode to the seasonal ingredients on their market-driven menu.

  7. Hanukkah recipe: Fresh herb salad with seeds

The Hanukkah menu revolves around oil -- it's the symbol of the holiday. But that means when you're planning a menu you need to think of a dish that will cut through some of that richness. Something like this light salad of bitter herbs and toasted seeds from cookbook writer Phyllis Glazer.

  9. Dinner tonight! Fresh herb salad with seeds

If you're looking to add a lot of flavor to your salad without the calories and fat you find in most dressings, consider adding fresh herbs to the mix. This salad combines fresh mint, parsley, cilantro and basil leaves, along with salad greens, radishes and crunchy sunflower and sesame seeds. Toss it with a light dressing brightened with orange and lemon juice and sweetened with a little honey, and dinner is served. The whole thing comes together in less than 30 minutes. Enjoy!

  19. Counter Intelligence: LàOn Dining

For all of the hundreds of restaurants in L.A.'s Koreatown, tucked behind untranslated signs and inside barely marked skyscrapers, in sleek malls and dusty strip centers, the area has never had much in the way of recognizable chefs. Generations of Los Angeles Koreans and Korean Americans have been going to Ham Ji Park for pork ribs and to Masan for monkfish soup, to Ham Hung for cold buckwheat noodles and to Mountain for abalone porridge, but the cooks have been mostly behind the scenes. It's the owners who host banquets, sit on community boards and fatten the rolls of the chamber of commerce. In a restaurant culture most famous for 3 a.m. noodles and grill-your-own barbecue, there hasn't been much room for culinary celebrity.

  21. The Review: Ray's and Stark Bar at LACMA

Restaurants with a view usually come in two varieties: landscape or cityscape. The new Ray's and Stark Bar at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art have a view. But it's not the ocean or the city lights spread on a starry carpet below. Instead, the new museum restaurant revels in a wide, sweeping view of the Resnick Exhibition Pavilion designed by Renzo Piano. In other words, great architecture.

Dear SOS: I am eagerly and desperately looking to replicate the most delicious, amazing salad I have ever had. My fiancé and I are regulars at the Tender Greens in Culver City, and we finally tried its best dish on meatless Monday: the happy vegan. It successfully combines the tastiest health foods such as red quinoa salad, green hummus and farro, with toasted hazelnuts, all on one plate. Please help me with the recipe!
