1. Easy dinner recipes: Eggs every which way

Eggs for dinner? Yes. They're not just for breakfast -- eggs work well in so many dishes, and they're so easy to prepare. (And no, you don't have to love "Pink Flamingos" or Edith Massey - the egg-loving mother in the John Waters film - to enjoy them any time of day.) Let us offer some suggestions.

  7. A fresh take on the frittata: Master Class

It started out an ordinary enough morning. I was on vacation in London with Ruth Reichl and two other girlfriends, and naturally we'd planned our day around where we wanted to eat. For breakfast, we went to the Toe Path Cafe, an adorable little place I'd read about, and I did what I always do when I go out for breakfast: I scanned the menu for eggs. When I saw a frittata, I ordered it, having no idea that it was going to be nothing short of life-altering. Life-altering in terms of my egg-making and egg-eating life, anyway.

  9. Great places for holiday brunch

Here they come: the relatives. And they're hungry too. So where are you going to feed them? Why not one of the new generation of brunches that have been popping up at some very good restaurants lately? Brunch is convivial and fun, not to mention much less expensive than taking the crowd to a full-on dinner.

  11. The Review: Petrossian

Weekend mornings, I'm usually happy to stay at home reading, listening to music and generally lolling around. No rushing, all the time in the world for simple pleasures. Toast with homemade jam. Freshly brewed coffee. Or there's breakfast with a friend at Petrossian in West Hollywood, where luxury can be as simple as perfect scrambled eggs garnished with caviar. The cappuccino is well made and strong. You can ease into the morning with a Bellini or a lavender mimosa — and also have the best bagel and smoked salmon in town.

  13. The California Cook: Scrambled eggs: the sunny side of dinner

I've always loved Robert Frost's line about home being the place where, "when you have to go there, they have to take you in." Perhaps I'm putting an overly optimistic reading on it, but the idea that even on our coldest, darkest nights, there is always a place with a warm light in the window is reassuring. That's kind of the way I feel about having eggs in the refrigerator.

  19. 30 days of ripe tomatoes

Summer always comes late to Southern California, but that seemed to be particularly true this year, as the cloudy gray days of June gloom stretched well into August for many areas. There was a good side, to be sure, but what we gained by not having to turn on the air conditioner was offset by the sorry state of our tomatoes.

  21. A luscious year's top 10

LOOKING back on the hundreds of recipes published in Food this year (384, to be exact), we're wondering: How do we stay so thin? OK, so we don't. Or not all of us, anyway. How could we, when there are so many wonderful dishes to sample week after week?...
