  3. Dining Out: Immersed in another world at Casa Cordoba in Montrose

Crossing the threshold at Casa Cordoba in Montrose is like crossing eight time zones. You land smack dab in southern Spain. A bubbling fountain in a Spanish courtyard lures you in. Strains of classical guitar draw you deeper inside where custom-built tiled tables and Moorish lanterns stand among Picasso, Miro and Dali prints. Another room holds pretty earthenware imported from villages in Andalusia, traceable on a large, beautifully lit map under glass. Owners Jeannie and Chris Bone took their time decorating the cafe, an homage to their beloved vacation spot of Cordoba, and they did a splendid job.

  5. Happy hour of the week: Cheese Culture

After trying out a short-lived tapas menu for its happy-hour clientele, Las Olas Boulevard's charcuterie house nixed the food specials and stuck to the basics. Co-owner Mitchell Phipps says the logistics of arranging tiny tapas between 4 and 7 p.m., when the crowd is fullest, was not working well for the restaurant. He says it's better to slice all beer prices in half, as well as two select wines, for happy hour Tuesday through Thursday. The brews are crafts and imports, but his recommendation is surprisingly chic: a Belgian white called Blanche de Bruxelles, paired with two-year Gouda for a trip to what he calls "Yummiland."
