DELHI, INDIA — Delhi, India, is closed today.
DELHI, INDIA — Delhi, India, is closed today. My guide, a solemn man named C.K. Gupta, is deeply apologetic. It is, he informs me, not a holiday, but a peaceful protest. "Too high prices in the shops." It is 2010, and I am in Delhi on vacation....

  11. Siri's new gig: Being John Malkovich's iPhone

In a new ad, the voice of iPhone 4S meets the embodiment of all things eerie and slightly off-kilter — John Malkovich.
In a new ad, the voice of iPhone 4S meets the embodiment of all things eerie and slightly off-kilter — John Malkovich. Really and truly, the ad made me nervous for Siri. Typically scenes that start with the "Un bel dì vedremo" aria from Puccini's...

  15. Culinary SOS: La Sandia smoked brisket is rich, flavorful

<strong>Dear SOS: </strong>I just made the kale gratin from last week's edition, and it was luscious. Thanks. My 6-year-old daughter eats like a bird but absolutely loves the brisket from <a href=&quot;http://www.richardsandoval.com/lasandiasm/index.htm">La Sandia</a> at Santa Monica Place. It is one of the only meals she asks for. We actually splurge on the non-kid menu entree for her whenever we go there. I would like to replicate it as best I can at home. Can you please get the recipe?

  19. Critic's Choice: Linger over lunch at these restaurants

Whenever my friend Roberta comes to town, we try to have lunch at Providence on a Friday. That's the only day the Michelin two-star restaurant is open for lunch, in fact. Lunch has a different character than dinner. You tend to talk about different things, maybe because you're more alert at 1 p.m. than at 9. Restaurants are usually less crowded then, so it's quieter. I have a sneaking suspicion that chefs enjoy lunch too, because of that more leisurely pace. I'm not talking about grabbing a sandwich, I mean a meal at a good restaurant.
