If you find yourself craving some pad Thai or satay, headdown to Vientiane Thai Cuisine, a new restaurant in Torrington. Nestled in the first Shop & Stop Plaza on High Street, this restaurant offers among the best Thai food in the area with a spacious setting that offers plenty of room for large parties and cozy booths nestled to the side for the more intimate affairs. But make sure to make a reservation. This place is very popular amongst the locals, packed almost every night especially on the weekends. For first-timers, start with the tom kar, a rich soup prepared in a coconut milk that makes the broth creamy. Out of its many styles, the vegetable tom kar would be the way to go, for the combination of both the broth and fresh tofu really brings out the coconut flavor. If you want to branch out from the more traditional foods, try the mouth-watering kai ka prow, a minced chicken dish that is spiced up in a coconut curry just enough to really accentuate the flavoring without going overboard. Also, check out their long list of bubble teas, a fun-filled beverage with tapioca-like balls.
