Purdue named former Kent State coach Darrell Hazell its new head coach Wednesday.
The move was announced amid a flourish of coaching news this week.
Hazell took the Golden Flashes to their first ever Mid-American Conference Championship as well as earning the program its first bowl bid in more than four decades. Kent State will play Arkansas State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl on Jan. 6.
The 48-year-old had just finished his second season at Kent State. He replaces Danny Hope, who was fired after a 6-6 season.
Other moves Wednesday include Steve Addazio leaving Temple for Boston College. The 53-year-old Addazio spent two seasons with the Owls going 13-11 before bolting for the Eagles and the ACC. He replaces Frank Spaziani, who was fired after a 2-10 season.
Florida International fired Mario Cristobal after a 3-9 season. Cristobal was in his sixth season with the Golden Panthers and had led the program to back-to-back bowl games in 2010 and 2011.
