Sergio Garcia locked up one of 10 automatic berths with his victory at the Wyndham Championship, jumping to sixth on Europe's world points list and No. 3 among those not among the top five in European Tour points.
Colsaerts captured the World Match Play in May and tied for seventh at the British Open.
Whoever doesn't get an automatic berth figures to be on Olazabal's short list for a captain's pick along with Ian Poulter, who was bumped by Garcia's victory.
Also of note is Irish stalwart Padraig Harrington, heating up lately after struggling early in the year.
Caddie jackpot: Garcia's victory in Greensboro was like hitting the lottery for David Faircloth, a local caddie who took the Spaniard's bag for the week.
Garcia split with Gary Matthews after the PGA Championship, saying he wanted to rely more on his own decision-making and not wait for a caddie's input. Faircloth's job was simply to carry and clean clubs and give yardages.
"Caddies are great," Garcia said, "but sometimes I feel like I depend too much on them."
The Spaniard's final decision in Greensboro was to figure out how much to pay Faircloth. Tour caddies commonly get 10 percent of a winning cut, but Garcia hedged when asked to specify an amount.
"I'll have to look at it," he said. "He'll be happy with whatever he gets. I'm sure he will."
This week, Garcia's bag will be toted by Wayne Richardson, a friend who also works as a spotter for CBS.
Tap-ins: Since the FedEx Cup series began five years ago, only Steve Stricker and Hunter Mahan have competed in all 20 "playoff" events. Mahan has played in all but two rounds, missing a cut once. … Willie Wood's playoff victory last week made him the 12th Monday qualifier ever to win on the Champions Tour. It also ended a winless drought of 16 years, 29 days since the 1996 Deposit Guaranty Classic in Mississippi. … Yani Tseng’s tie for 11th at last week’s LPGA stop in Oregon marked her best finish in four months.
