Could ‘America 12’ be the new name for the league formerly known as the Big East?
According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, sources inside the league told ESPN that the name ‘America 12 Conference’ is an early favorite. Nothing is official and the sources told ESPN that the conference is considering several different names as well.
Covington & Burling, a law firm which represents the Big East, purchased the names of several website domains including America12.org.
While the schools of the Catholic 7 and the Big East continue to hammer out the details surrounding their very public divorce, one of the concessions being considered is the use of the name Big East, which reportedly will be sold to the seven schools as part of their separation package on June 30.
