After being defeated last fall by Democrat Karen Castor Dental, former state representative Scott Plakon of Seminole County is planning his comeback attempt, challenging Democrat state Rep. Mike Clelland in Florida House of Representatives District 29.
Plakon, a Longwood businessman, was a two-term representative with a record for strong conservatism, particularly on social issues. The last redistricting squeezed him and then-Florida House speaker-designate Chris Dorworth into the same district, so Plakon moved to neighboring District 30.
The result was both lost, and with Castor Dental and Clelland the Democrats got their first strong foothold in Seminole County in decades.
In an e-mail to supporters, Plakon announced he will kick off a campaign to challenge Clelland in District 29. The kickoff event is scheduled for next month. Plakon also set up a campaign webstite.
