Kissimmee Osceola DB Hassan Childs, ranked No. 47 and likely to move up in the Sentinel’s 2013 Central Florida Super60, has received two more offers recently from UCF and Indiana, giving him four altogether with the others from NC State and FIU.
“It’s good,” Childs said of his recruiting status heading into spring football. “It makes me feel more motivated to play harder and to keep my grades up … just more focused.”
Childs said that while his offer from UCF is nice and that he was impressed by his junior-day visit, the proximity actually might work against the Knights.
“My mom still says the decision is up to me, but I don’t think she wants me to stay close to home,” Childs said. “Not too far, but not too close to home either. I think going out of state or something like that wouldn’t bother her. She doesn’t want me always coming back home for everything and that kind of stuff… but she’s very supportive, either way.”
Childs and teammate RB Stafon McCray, the No. 15-ranked player in the Sentinel’s 2013 Central Florida Super60 and the 69th-ranked player in the Sentinel's 2013 Florida Top 100, have been gathering some recruiting momentum lately.
McCray has offers from Marshall, Boston College and FIU but he said he figures on quite a few more to come.
“I’m still pretty OK with everything because I talk to way more coaches than that who say they just want to see me on the field in the spring,” McCray said. “Coaches like UCF, Florida, South Carolina ... a lot of coaches, so I figure after the spring game is when it’s going to start lighting up for me.”
McCray said he plans to go to UCF’s spring game on Saturday and may attend USF’s spring game April 21. And, even though he has just three offers so far, he said he does have early favorites.
“Right now my list is South Carolina, that’s where I really want to go and then UCF, to stay in Florida, and my third option is really open right now.”
Childs said it’s fun to share the recruiting process with his teammate.
“As far as me and Stafon, we’re pretty jacked up about it … we’re ready to go,” Childs said.Chris Hays is the Sentinel's recruiting coverage coordinator and can be reached at email@example.com. Follow us on Twitter at @Os_Recruiting and Facebook at Orlando Sentinel Recruiting.
