Gators coach Will Muschamp did not waste any time filling the holes left by Dan Quinn.

Within hours of Quinn's decision to become defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, Muschamp promoted linebackers coach D.J. Durkin.

On Sunday, multiple reports indicated Muschamp had hired South Carolina defensive line coach Brad Lawing to coach defensive ends, something in addition to his coordinator duties Quinn did the past two seasons in Gainesville.

On Tuesday, the school confirmed Lawing's hiring.

Former NFL Pro Bowler Bryant Young will continue to coach the defensive tackles.

Neither school would confirm Lawing's hiring. But on Monday, South Carolina beat reporter Darryl Slater, of the Post and Courier in Charleston, spoke with Gamecocks' defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward about the move.

On his Twitter account, Slater (@DarrylSlater) quoted Ward saying he and coach Steve Spurrier had no idea Lawing planed to leave Columbia until early last week when he began speaking to Florida.

This seems to imply Quinn was speaking to Seattle, which reportedly is paying Quinn $5.7 million over three seasons. Quinn made a little less than $500,000 at Florida.

"It became (about) a little more than football," Ward told Slater. "He felt like he and his family needed a new start."

Ward said Lawing told him Sunday night he would take the Florida job, but did not give Ward many specifics.

Lawing joined Spurrier's staff in 2006 and coached All-America defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney and Melvin Ingram, among others. Lawing also previously coached at South Carolina for 10 seasons (1989-98) and recruited John Abraham, a four-time Pro Bowler, to play in Columbia.
