The Florida Gators entered the preseason with little buzz and even less respect.

Coaches selected just one one player (kicker Caleb Sturgis) first-team All-SEC, while the media picked the Gators to finish a distant third in the SEC East.

The No. 3 Gators (11-1) would go on the share the East title. Florida may have lacked star power but clearly was loaded with talent and strong coaching

In the end, the Gators ended up with more players on the AP's 2012 All-SEC first team than any school in the conference. Five Gators made the coaches first-team All-SEC, one fewer than conference champion Alabama, which will play Notre Dame for the national championship.

Tight end Jordan Reed, running back Mike Gillislee, defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd, safety Matt Elam, placekicker Caleb Sturgis and punter Kyle Christy were named to the AP first team. Cornerback Marcus Roberson was named the second team.

Alabama and newcomer Texas A&M had four players each.

Coaches named Gillislee, Elam, Floyd, Sturgis and Christy to the first team, while Reed and linebacker Jon Bostic made second team All-SEC.

Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin, who led his team to a 10-2 finish, edged the Gators Will Muschamp for Coach of the Year honors. A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was named Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, while Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.
