My niece, Natalie Barton, is an extra in the movie "The Avengers." She is the daughter of Linda Southall-Barton and grand-daughter of Herb and Mary Lou Southall. Natalie and her mother traveled to Ohio to go on the "extras" red carpet on opening night.
The CGR Relentless 5K and Fun Walk will benefit the Cody G Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund. It will be held on June 2 in Perryville. The run/walk will start and end at Perryville Middle School, proceed down Aiken Avenue, turn right on Broad Street, right on Susquehanna Avenue, left on Frenchtown Road, left on Broad Street and left on Aiken Avenue. The walk route is only 3K and slightly different. Registration is available on active.com or through the downloadable mail-in form on our website. We will have registration open on-site on race day beginning at 8 a.m. and the run/walk starts at 9 a.m. All proceeds go toward the scholarships we will give to local Cecil and Harford County high school seniors going on to running programs at the college level.
The second annual Juke Box Saturday Night is Saturday, June 9, 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Havre de Grace Community Center, 100 Lagaret Drive, Havre de Grace. Music of the '50s and '60s with entertainment by The Reminiscents. Raffles, door prizes and dance contest, food, desserts, soft drinks and cash bar. Tickets are $38 in advance or $43 at the door. Associate Grand Matron Sister Debra L. Hribar and Associate Grand Patron Brother David L. Hall made additional announcements to their Grand Family, including Sister C. Elaine Niemeyer as their grand chaplain. Niemeyer is from Towson Chapter 70. Sister Jean Chance, past grand matron was appointed grand lecturer, is from Annapolis Chapter 44. Sister Beverly Geisler was named grand ruth and she is from Harford Chapter 83 in Bel Air, Sister Judith Birckhead was appointed grand marshal, she is from Unity Chapter 112 and Sister Toby Harvie was named grand adah and she hails from Queen Esther Chapter 3.
A crab feast at Ripken Stadium Aug. 10 will start at 6:30 p.m.
The cost is $50 per person with Dennis Bolen of Havre de Grace. He has made a challenge for the Class of 1970 – come on our let's see how many of our alumni will make this event. Roger and I went last year and had a blast. So join Dennis and the gang for a night at Ripken Stadium, with all-you-can-eat Maryland steamed crabs, corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, soda, water and beer. You will receive an IronBirds baseball cap for attending. The buffet is for two hours from the start of catering or through the seventh inning (whichever is first).

A Memorial Day service will be held at the American Legion Post, 300 Cherry St., on Monday, May 28 at 11 a.m. The club and bar will be closed during the ceremony. Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served.
Texas Hold 'Em will be played at the American Legion Post 135, 300 Cherry St., Perryville, on June 1. Games start at 7 p.m. with registration at 6. A side game is at 4. Buy-in is $25. A Saturday game will be played June 16. Games at 2 p.m. with registration at 1. Buy in is $50. All fundraisers benefit American Legion programs.
St. Paul's Lutheran Church will serve Martha's Meal at Grove Presbyterian Church on June 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Several members of Havre de Grace Chapter 27 Order of the Eastern Star attended the Grand Chapter of Maryland Order of the Eastern Star sessions in Ocean City. Those members in attendance included Worthy Matron Pam Whitecavage-Kincaid, Worthy Patron J. Thomas McLaughlin, Associate Matron Carolyn Mathias, Associate Patron Ronald Mathias, Secretary Joyce Caldwell, Treasurer Diane Smith, Chaplain Louise Fagan, Marshal Aileen Squires, Esther - Carolyn Brennen, Chuck Brennan and Roger and I. While attending sessions, several of the members attended the Pago Luncheon, the annual sessions banquets, the grand representatives luncheon, The Hribar-Hall luncheon and the secretary/treasurer luncheon as well as the installation ceremony of the 2012 Grand Officers, which included me, who was installed as Grand Martha.

Roger and I and our friends Mack and Ruth Ann Andrews went to the Runabouts Reunion at the Havre de Grace Community Center last weekend. Wow, what a great night. I think just about all Havre de Grace High School alumni were in attendance.
The live band LIX will perform Saturday, June 9, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Susquehanna Post 135, 300 Cherry St. in Perryville. Cost is $10 per person in advance and $12 at the door. Cost includes draft beer, pretzels and chips. Event benefits the Sons of the American Legion.
Here is a report on Port Deposit Bethel 55 Job's Daughter's International annual grand session held in Ocean City May 10 to 13. They were winners in several categories including the following: third place in the ritual competition out of 11 Bethels in the state which was held at our Bethel on April 5,. The Bethel council is very proud of the daughters! This is a great accomplishment! The girls also placed first for their badge that was worn in Ocean City - it was a cross of Abi Keen's term as honored queen, her mascot a turkey and Courtney Spangler's mascot a penguin - it was a Turquin. The Bethel scrapbook took home first place again for three years in a row! We received an aqua ribbon for initiating four new members this past year. The ribbon is placed on our Bethel flag in a flag ceremony held at the Friday, May 11 formal opening. We are the second largest Bethel in the state. Bethel 35, Bel Air, received a peach ribbon for initiating seven new members. Bethel 35 is the largest Bethel in the state. Many of Bethel 55 daughters entered into our Grand Librarian's contest submitting pencil drawings, poetry, photography, sewing, etc. and placed either first, second or third place out of all the daughters in the state.

The newly elected Jobs Daughters International Grand Officers for 2012-2013 were installed on Saturday night during the Grand Sessions held May 10 to 13. Cathy Feyen, PBG of Bethel 41 Camp Springs was installed as Grand Guardian and John Regner, Past Associate Grand Guardian of Maryland of Bethel 41 Camp Springs was installed as Associate Grand Guardian Pro-tem for this year.
Port Deposit Bethel 55 Jobs Daughters International installed a new council at our May 17 meeting. The new council members are Holly Spangler, Bethel Guardian; Dave Spangler, Associate Bethel Guardian; Melody Buchanan, Guardian Secretary; Pat Pelham, Past Grand Guardian, Guardian Treasurer; Susan Passwaters, PHQ and PBG 55, Guardian Director of Epochs; and Margaret Keen, Promotor of Hospitality. Mary Lou Walter, Past Grand Guardian, will be our deputy for this year. At the meeting Passwaters presented Tony Keen, Worshipful Master of Harmony Lodge 53, with his Past Associate Bethel Guardian's pin for his loyal service to the daughters and council of Bethel 55.
