The Petoskey Regional Audubon Society will host its annual Christmas Bird Count on Friday, Dec. 14.
A long-standing program of the National Audubon Society, this is an early winter bird census where volunteers stay within a 15-mile diameter circle.
The Petoskey Regional Audubon Society count circle is centered at the State Police Post, at M-119 and U.S. 31. Interested birders, including feeder watchers, are invited to contact Ed Pike at (231) 758-3319.
More than 50,000 observers across North America participate each year in this all-day census of early-winter bird populations. The results are compiled into the longest running database in ornithology, representing more than a century of unbroken data on trends of early-winter bird populations across the Americas. To learn more about the count, see www.audubon.org.
