The NSA is a key component of the U.S. intelligence community, which is headed by the Director of National Intelligence. NSA provides political and military leaders with intelligence to ensure national defense and advance U.S. interests. It has been described as the world's largest employer of mathematicians and the owner of the largest group of supercomputers. For many years the U.S. government did not even acknowledge its existence. It was often said, half-jokingly, that "NSA" stood for "No Such Agency," and also, as "Never Say Anything." Analysts, engineers, physicists, mathematicians, linguists, computer scientists and researchers are among the professionals that comprise its workforce. The NSA's headquarters occupy 350 acres at Fort George G. Meade in Anne Arundel County.  « Show less
