The Bears’ defense looks done.
Miraculously, the offense got the Bears a 10-7 halftime lead, but it proved to be just another false-start. And when the offensive line wasn’t false-starting, it was giving up sacks and generally killing Jay Cutler.
The line turned so bad in the second half that Frank Omiyale gave up a sack and was benched. Then J’Marcus Webb gave up a sack after all of his false-starts. Your offensive tackles, ladies and gentlemen.
The offense is a mess. The Lions gave the Bears three first downs on penalties on a drive in the first quarter, and the Bears still used all three of their timeouts before the end of the period. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.
Get a load of this: One wasted timeout came on a dead play. No snap. Time was running out. Again.
The last timeout was burned when Lovie Smith lost another challenge.
That’s bad coaching. Bad organization. Bad decisions.
Bad players, too. The Bears committed nine false starts. Nine. That’s crazy. You have to try to be that bad.
Meanwhile, they also couldn’t get less than a yard on a fourth down. What do they do in practice all week?
But the defense, which should be the foundation of this team, has deteriorated. It looks old. It can’t carry a disastrous offense anymore.
They can’t execute the scheme. They can’t execute the basics. They have lost much of their discipline, not to mention the game-deciding turnovers they rely on.

Big plays have killed the Bears this season the way they killed the Bears in Detroit.
Calvin Johnson caught a bomb behind the safeties. Wasn’t Chris Harris supposed to stop this nonsense?
The entire defense was gashed for an 88-yard killer run by Jahvid Best, a play on which he cut back to find a hole, natch. Tell you what, against the Bears defense, the cutback has become the new slant.
To think, the embarrassing offense won the time of possession in a big way thanks to some idiotic Lions penalties. The defense should’ve been rested.
More like rest in peace.
It’s bad all the way around, and that includes special teams. Late in the fourth quarter, Chris Conte false-started while playing fullback for punter Adam Podlesh. Wait, shouldn’t he be the one guy to know the snap count?
Look, when Dave Toub’s guys screw up like that, you know it’s over. The game, the season, the everything.
A lot of people need to be cut from the team.
Or fired. Or deported. Jailed. Something.
The general manager who neglected to get NFL-caliber starters or decent depth. The head coach who can’t make his team look like it actually has been coached. Both coordinators can go.
As for the roster, more players deserve to go than deserve to stay.
Thing is, the Lions aren’t as good as their 5-0 record would suggest. They didn’t look dominant. They looked better than the Bears, but at this point, who doesn’t?
Bigger thing is, while there might be questions about the Lions, there seems to be no answer for the Bears.
