3. Oprah Winfrey brings drama to 'The Butler' trailer

Moviegoers well-acquainted with Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels’ eyebrow-raising filmic oeuvre may be shocked to learn that his latest movie, “The Butler,” seems, at first blush, rather short on salacious surprises. This from the...

5. Debating FDR and the Holocaust

It wasn't surprising that Rafael Medoff's April 7 Op-Ed article about President Franklin D. Roosevelt's private comments on Jews facing persecution in Europe drew spirited responses (though I do admit that I was a little rattled that most of the letters defended Roosevelt). We published several letters Friday -- one from an American Jew who favorably compared the 32nd president's record on genocide to his successors. In response to that letter, in Saturday's Postscript, Medoff listed several instances in which the Roosevelt administration neglected to do anything meaningful to interrupt the Holocaust -- and in ways that would not have undermined the war effort against Hitler.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Rickie Fowler and the Masters clash. Let us count the ways.
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Rickie Fowler and the Masters clash. Let us count the ways. First, there is the color thing. Masters green has a pureness that presents a cooling combination of grass and lime. Fowler green, a shirt-and-pants outfit he wore during...

9. Review: Flashes of lightning in Trisha Brown's 'Astral Converted'

The Sunset Canyon Amphitheatre, at the northwest corner of the UCLA campus, is not exactly the wilds. The bleachers overlook a recreation center's grassy knoll and a swimming pool in the distance. Still, the amphitheater is hidden away and, thanks to UCLA's parking militia, mildly inaccessible to the public. If that touch of trouble and remove helped make Sunset Canyon an enchanted, although challenging, venue Thursday night for Trisha Brown's "Astral Converted," it also helped remind us just how radically times have changed over the last two decades.

21. Guarding the right's flank

To understand what is wrong with today's political right, look no further than the American Conservative Union. The ACU made headlines last month when it snubbed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. A source told National Review that Christie hadn't been invited to the ACU's annual Conservative Political Action Conference, which begins Thursday, because of his "limited future" in the Republican Party.
