Gillibrand represented New York's 20th congressional district from 2007 until her selection. She was born in Albany and attended Dartmouth College and UCLA.

She is in the Special Committee on Aging, Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, Committee on Environment and Public Works and Committee on Foreign Relations.
