3. Was Gabby Giffords wrong to come to Newtown?

Former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords came to Newtown last week for a private meeting with family members of the victims of the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Giffords was a victim of a mass shooting, too, on Jan. 8, 2011. Days after meeting with the families, she and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, announced they were raising funds for a political action committee that would take on the National Rifle Association and "encourage elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership.” A state representative from Newtown at first condemned the meeting, telling the former congresswoman to “stay out of” Newtown, but later issued an apology. Should Gabby Giffords have gone to Newtown? Did she politicize the trip? What’s your view?
