Designer merry go round
Los Angeles Times Fashion Critic
Designer merry go round Stefano Pilati was out at Yves Saint Laurent and in at Ermenegildo Zegna. Versus, Azzaro and Vionnet lost their designers, and Jil Sander was back in at Jil Sander, after Raf Simons left that label for Dior. Nicolas Ghesquière...

7. Beckley joins the cool kids

If there were a social hierarchy for independent boutiques in the proverbial school lunchroom that is L.A., the cool kids would likely sit on West 3rd Street — and not just for close proximity to the Chinese chicken salad at Joan's on Third.

9. Designer Greg Chait: Ready for his close-up?

When Greg Chait won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in New York City last month, the man behind the Elder Statesman line of ultra-luxury cashmere knits — think $5,525 blankets, $1,890 belted cardigan sweaters and $380 ski caps — was practically unknown outside the fashion industry. And he was only slightly better known within it.

13. New York Fashion Week fall 2013: Alexander Wang review

NEW YORK -- To say that Alexander Wang is under pressure right now would be an understatement. Wang, 29, a rock star designer in his own right, known for brash basics favored by downtown It girls and models, is the newly crowned creative director of Balenciaga, replacing Nicolas Ghesquiere. And Wang will have some pretty big shoes to fill when he shows his first collection for the venerable French fashion house in a few weeks' time in Paris.

Fashion designer Tadashi Shoji lives in Pasadena, so it's only natural that he's been tapped year after year as the official designer for the Tournament of Roses. For the upcoming festivities, he has designed one-shoulder gowns for the Rose Court with flounce detail and an embellished shoulder, according to a news release. The princesses will be in flame crepe and Rose Queen Vanessa Manjerrez in winter white, the release said. But no picture was included, pending the big reveal.
