3. What we need in a pope

On Thursday, Pope Benedict XVI became the first pontiff in nearly 600 years to willingly step down from his position. What kind of man will the cardinals who have gathered in Rome from around the world choose to be his successor? We asked Catholics from a variety of perspectives to write about some of the qualities they would like to see in a new pope.

  7. Beyonce riles PETA again. Mila Kunis dons McQueen at 'Oz' premiere

Beyonce has been running afoul of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals all year, at least. First there was her fur coat at the presidential inauguration. Then there was her Super Bowl costume, which used leather and exotic skins. Now it's some custom-made PMK (Perfectly Made Kicks) wedge sneakers that incorporate ostrich, sting ray, anaconda and crocodile skins. "These custom-made kicks come with a high price and it's paid by the various animals who were beaten and skinned alive or cruelly farmed and killed," PETA said in a statement. [Telegraph]

  15. Why Anne Hathaway wore Prada, not Valentino, to the Oscars

Anne Hathaway surprised the fashion world by wearing Prada -- not Valentino -- to the Academy Awards on Sunday. It was a surprise because the actress is personally close to Valentino Garavani, who even designed her wedding gown. What happened? Hathaway's representative has now released a statement explaining that she had planned to wear a Valentino creation to the Oscars, but at the last minute -- well, Saturday night -- discovered it was very similar to a gown someone else planned to wear. So she decided to go with the column gown by Prada. [WWD]
