  5. Postal workers collecting nonperishable food donations May 11

    The National Association of Letter Carriers will conduct its annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday, May 11. The nation's 175,000 letter carriers will collect nonperishable food donations on that day as they deliver mail along their postal routes. It is the nation's largest single-day food drive, and is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.

    The pilot phase of the Johnstown Backpack Collaborative began this month, serving 120 Johnstown-area children. Lee Initiatives spearheaded the project in response to reports on the number of hungry children in the Johnstown area.
