The official toastmaster (tamada) grants permission to toast and signals the kitchen to refresh plates and uncork more bottles. At my first supra I lost count at the dizzying parade of plates, which I later learned was 42.

  23. Northern Michigan residents reach out to children in Kenya

The bright blue-clad children danced gaily around the flag pole. Seventeen of us from all parts of the United States had just arrived at the Kisima Academy, 10 miles north of Kitale in western Kenya. We were there to deliver 32 50-pound suitcases of supplies, help with educational needs, oversee the installation of solar power, deliver toys, books and school supplies, check out the newly built dormitories and conduct daily medical clinics ...  as well as many other things.
