Baseball notes: Red Sox designate Grady Sizemore for assignment

The Boston Red Sox designated outfielder Grady Sizemore for assignment, aborting the comeback of a former All-Star who'd been sidelined by knee, elbow and back injuries from September 2011 until this season. Sizemore hit .333 in spring training, started in center field and homered on opening day, but in 52 games he hit only .216 with two homers and 15 RBIs. Etc.
