Dave Dombrowski is out as president and general manager of the Detroit Tigers after nearly 14 seasons in which he helped turn the franchise into an American League powerhouse. Assistant GM Al Avila replaces Dombrowski, who was in the last season of his contract.
Detroit has won four straight AL Central titles, a streak likely to end this year. Dombrowski's last major act was to trade away star pitcher David Price, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and closer Joakim Soria before the July 31 deadline.
