Padres send All-Star Drew Pomeranz to Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox acquired All-Star left-hander Drew Pomeranz from the San Diego Padres in exchange for right-handed prospect Anderson Espinoza. 

Pomeranz is 8-7 with a 2.47 earned-run average in 17 starts for San Diego this season. He pitched a scoreless inning Tuesday in the All-Star game in San Diego. 

Espinoza is an 18-year-old Class-A pitcher who was the No. 3 prospect in the Red Sox system, according to Baseball America. 


The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned struggling pitcher Shelby Miller to the triple-A Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League. The right-hander is 2-9 with a 7.14 ERA.
