The Dodgers designated Chone Figgins for assignment Wednesday. Figgins, 36, batted .217 in 38 games with the Dodgers. He made the team as a non-roster invitee to spring training, but Miguel Rojas' ability to provide an outstanding defensive option at shortstop left no room for Figgins on the roster. The Dodgers also have Justin Turner as a utility infielder. Figgins had not played since June 13 because of a strained left quadriceps muscle. With minor league rehabilitation assignments limited to 20 days, the Dodgers had to put him back on the disabled list, call him up, or let him go. They now have 10 days to trade or release him. Figgins played with the Angels from 2002 to 2009...
