Dodgers put reliever Chris Perez on DL, call up pitcher Carlos Frias

Was that a two-for-one deal? Not exactly, but the Dodgers made an interesting roster move Monday when they placed struggling reliever Chris Perez on the disabled list because of a sore ankle and called up starting pitcher Carlos Frias from triple-A Albuquerque. Manager Don Mattingly said the right-handed Frias was brought up to pitch in relief, but since both Josh Beckett and Dan Haren are struggling in the rotation, the Dodgers now have someone who could start in their place should they decide to make a move. Frias has appeared in 21 games for Albuquerque and double-A Chattanooga this season, all but one appearance as a starter. He was a combined 10-5 with a 4.58 earned-run average....
